Need Back Pain/Headache Relief Recommendations?

Need Back Pain/Headache Relief Recommendations?

I have suffered from a pretty bad herniated disc in my lower back for the past 3 years. I am 48 now. Over this time, I have had various injection procedures, that have produced little relief, unfortunately. My doctor doesn't think my condition warrants a 'strong' painkiller and he is so afraid of me getting addicted (I have no evidence of addiction in my medical history), that the only drug he has agreed to prescribe for me is one called Voltaren XR, which helps somewhat, but I wish I could have something stronger because I personally think it warrants it. I'm going to see him again soon and talk to him again about it, but I am not too hopeful. Anyway, this condition has limited me somewhat in my daily activities over this time. However, lately, like in the last week or so, I have noticed my back pain has dramatically increased for some unknown reason, and along with it, very persistent painful headaches. Usually, when I have had a headache in the past, some aspirin would take care of it. But since the onset of this increased back pain, aspirin does little if anything to ease the headache pain. I haven't tried any of those so-called 'extra strength' headache remedies yet. I am 99% convinced my headache pain is due to the increased back pain, as the headaches began at exactly the same time as the increased back pain. All I have been able to do is stretch, and lie on a heating pad to gain some relief, but it is very annoying, as the headaches just persist for hours and hours. The headaches are more bothersome actually than the back pain, although that also is noticeably worse. Why all of a sudden my back pain is worse and these headaches, I don't know. I don't recall having strained my back lately or anything. The seasons are changing from winter to spring…maybe that might have something to do with it. But I am really at a loss to explain it. I was thinking of maybe trying one of those OTC back pain products like Doan's Pills, but I really don't know if they are effective. If you've used one of these products and found relief let me know, as I don't want to waste money on something that won't help. And also something for the headaches…I could try those extra strength products, but again, who knows. Again, if you could recommend a good product or products to try for back/headache pain resulting from this condition, please let me know. I don't know where I am going with this back condition. I am considering chiropractic…what have I got to lose. Surgery has been mentioned, but I know with surgery it's a gamble, sometimes you get better, sometimes you actually might get worse. It is very frustrating. And then you see all these so called 'gimmicks' advertised everywhere for back pain because it is so common, you really don't know what works and what doesn't.. I don't want to do any more injections, I'm fed up with them. If you have any other general thoughts or suggestions, please share them with me, as I am starting to feel a bit desperate. Thanks.

Back strengthening exercises are Essential for a healthy back, because they strengthen your stomach muscles which support your back.  Muscle stretching exercises should always be done before back strengthening exercises so you muscles are more pliable and prepared.  There are a lot of back pain products and tools to help provide chronic back pain relief and help your back become more strong and fit to reduce injury and pain.  I’ll review some of these below:

Back Pain Products to Help You Lose the Back Pain

Some back pain products that will help you lose the back pain include the following.  Just be sure they will treat your back pain condition(s):

Back Inversion Table:

Back inversion tables are great for helping to undo the damage that gravity has caused your back.  The discs in your spinal column get compressed by gravity which causes pain, bulging discs, deteriorating diss, etc.  Back inversion therapy helps to decompress the spine, which takes the pressure off of nerves, increases blood flow/circulation, which provides more hydration to the discs to help healing.

Trigger Point Therapy is like having a acupressure masseuse on hand to get rid of your back pain.  It’s the easiest way to get a deep pressure massage in the comfort of your own home anytime.  It uses your own body weight to get back pain relief and a great massage at the same time.

Orthopedic Seat Cushions and Back Support Cushions designed to fit your whole back from the upper back to your hips are a great way to help reduce back pain while you’re sitting, and promote good posture, which is key.  Sitting puts a lot of pressure on your spine, and orthopedic seat cushions and back support cushions help alleviate that, as well as the option of massage and heated massage to help speed healing.

Lose the Back Pain System shows you everything you need to know including how to identify what’s causing your back pain and treat the back pain symptoms, cause and condition.  It doesn’t treat all back pain, but 90% of back pain is treatable, and most of it is caused by muscle imbalance and muscle dysfunction, so there’s a very good chance that it will help you.

Back Pain From Muscle Spasms

Spasms usually start when nerve or muscle fibers get stressed. Muscles spasm involuntarily and cause back and other pain. If muscle fibers and nerves cannot connect in a normal manner, back pain does result. Sensory nerves fail to send signals to muscles and other areas of the body, and this leads to back pain. Back pain, basically, can come from many sources but usually it’s associated with spasms from malfunctioning muscles and nerves.

Causes of muscle spasms

• Fatigued muscles.

• Dehydration after exercise.

• Pregnancy and associated weight gain.

• Hypothyroidism, a deficiency of calcium and magnesium.

• Hormone deficiencies (causing muscle spasms).

• Excessive drinking leading to failure of the kidneys.

• Weight gain in general.

• Lack of proper nutrition.

Gentle stretching can help reduce or even eliminate some muscle spasms. Do a few minutes of it before exercising. This is why dancers warm up. Muscle spasms are abnormal contractions of the muscles and they can cause shuddering, twinges, seizures, tremors and paroxysm. The latter can cause sudden outburst, convulsions and other symptoms. The key is to warm up and get loose before performing any amount of physical activity. Give your muscles and body a chance to practice beforehand, so to speak.

Ligaments and tendons affect the muscles and start back pain if not properly used. They are the linkages between our bones and muscles. They help with sitting, bending, movement, walking and standing. Muscles are the main component in movement but the helper ligaments and tendons are vital. Proper nutrition and exercise are vital so you can move and continue to move properly. The body is a machine and all of the connecting components have to work together so we can perform pain-free movement. Look after each part and it will be a healthy whole.

Shoes and posture and nutrition and exercise all play a part in both experiencing back pain from muscle spasms, and eliminating as much of it as you can. In essence, if you eat right, hydrate properly, get some exercise (stretching out beforehand of course), perhaps practising meditation or yoga, and get enough sleep and wear comfortable shoes. Then most back pain can be eliminated. At least, that which is caused by muscle spasms. You don’t have to spend any money when you start on the path to better back health. Rolling out the exercise mat or using an exercise ball at home, is a great start. Check your diet and see what you can do to improve it. Make sure you get enough of the proper vitamins and minerals, or use a supplement if you want to. As always, check with your doctor if your back pain or spasms are sudden and severe.

Back Pain Muscle Spasms – Finding the Culprits

You have long muscles that run along the spine called the erector spinae muscles. These are often the guilty muscles when you have back pain and muscle spasms. A spasm is an involuntary contraction of the muscle for a sustained period of time. Usually a spasm occurs when the muscle has been suddenly stressed somehow which can include injury, sprains, tears or bruising. The spasm can actually start in the nerves that lead into the muscle though the feeling is the same no matter where the spasm starts.

Most of the time muscle spasms are painful, but not serious. It should be mentioned though that in some cases, the spasm may be a symptom of a more serious problem. The back is composed of bones, muscles and ligaments, and injury or disease to any component can result in back pain muscle spasms.

Back pain and muscle spasms can occur anywhere along the spine from the neck to the lower back. A spasm can occur once or it can happen repeatedly. Often the spasm makes the muscle feel sore and tight even after the spasm subsides. So when you deal with muscle spasms you have two goals. The first goal is to attempt to prevent the reoccurrence of the spasm. The second goal is to relive the pain and tension after the spasm.

There are many ways you can approach management of back pain and muscle spasms at home. First, you should keep moving. You don’t want to go to bed and lie still, because that will cause the muscle to hurt more. Light exercises will relieve the muscle stress while strengthening and toning. Also, you can use an ice pack applied to the area and decrease the muscle spasm pain. In addition, you should avoid any heavy lifting or moves similar to the moves you were doing before the spasm.

If your back pain and muscle spasms don’t get better with home remedies, you may have to visit the doctor. Frequently, muscle relaxants are prescribed to relieve muscle tightness. Muscle relaxants are a short term solution meant to give relief from pain while the muscle heals. Some people find enough relief by using over-the-counter anti-inflammatory pain relievers. Many medications you can now buy yourself are what were once considered full prescription strength. All of the drugs can reduce swelling and increase muscle flexibility.

Other forms of therapy for back pain [http://releasebackpain.com/back] and muscle spasms include massage or physical therapy. But one of the most important therapies you can do yourself. That’s to maintain good posture. Good posture lets your spine work the way it was designed to work. Maintaining good posture is important during any activity too and not just while standing. You should stand, sit, walk and lift while maintaining proper spine position. This will help you avoid muscle injury and sprains that can lead to muscle spasms.

The Real Deal With Chiropractors

A profession that deals with the treatment and prevention of disorders related to the musculoskeletal system is called chiropractic. Patients with dislocated spines can be treated by simply manipulating their spines so that it will go back to the right place. Speculations about this treatment has be circulating for a number of years. When a spinal cord is moved in the wrong manner, this can lead to the patient’s paralysis which can be irreversible.

One more myth is that when a spinal column is moved, it will hurt so much which will traumatize the patient. Some also think that it only treats back pains and that the chiropractors are not real doctors because they cannot even prescribe medicine. Others also think that their body structure would be distorted when this is not done properly and that it involves a lifetime commitment to continue treatment once started.

Myths are products of things that we are not familiar with. Or they can also be passed on from the early times when this type of treatment was still under observation and was not yet proven to be effective. Humans are so innovative. We think of ideas and improve them to help the society by using them for convenience as we try to manage our disorders and imperfections. In reality, chiropractic is a good way of healing since it makes use of all natural methods.

The treatment involves the adjustment of the skeletal system, mainly a spine that is in a position expected to cause ailments and diseases. Contrary to popular belief, chiropractic not only treats back pains. It can also treat measles, arthritis, fever and other kidney problems. The doctor will first do a series of test and evaluate your x-rays and other tests. The duration of the treatment varies depending on the illness of the person. Chiropractors are doctors. Before they can practice, they have to study and graduate from a course in chiropractic and they need to take the board exam before they can practice.

Medicines cause a lot of side effects which may not even manifest immediately. Usually, effects could leave lasting damages in the body. Chiropractic in the US is practiced widely. People will surely not continue to use it if the myths are indeed factual. But, of course, we need to look into the record and credibility of the practitioner we choose to come to since an incompetent one can compromise our safety. When we have diseases or ailments, we need to widen our range of thinking and understanding in choosing the best treatment for us since we’ll be the ones to endure whatever unwanted side effects there will be for the rest of our lives.
